CC-Red Bluff history

Calvary Chapel began in February 1986 as a home fellowship at Pastor Gil and Irene DeLaO’s home in Red Bluff. The first study on a Tuesday evening brought one visitor. After a few months the first Sunday morning service was held on Easter Sunday.

Outgrowing their home, they went to a local restaurant, the Picnic Basket for Sunday Service. Several months later they moved the Sunday service to the State Theater, and remained at their home for the mid-week service and children’s ministries. They then rented the building at 601 Walnut street for office space, the mid-week study and Sunday children’s ministries. When the State Theater was bought by new owners, the services went to the Walnut street address.

After several years there, the church grew measurably and went to a second service. After a couple more years, and more body growth, a third service was added. Throughout this time the church was looking for a bigger, more permanent home. Waiting on the Lord brought fruit in December of 1999 when the church bought a twenty acre parcel on the west side of the airport off of Paskenta Road.

After the land was purchased a drainage plan was required by the county before any plans for building could be submitted. When the county entities couldn’t be satisfied with the church's proposals, the fellowship started searching again for a building in town. After a couple of years of looking with no success, they went back to the county with a drainage plan that was acceptable.

Work on the new facility began in the spring of 2004 and completed by late November.   The inaugural service for the 350 member flock was held on December 4, 2005.
